First day back to work

After 13 days of not giving a shit about work, today was back at it.

Honestly, it wasn't so bad. I think part of that is because many people disconnected for the holidays and are just digging out from the backlog. I did get a bit frustrated because there are several customers having issues and reaching out to me, even though I am unable to help.

  1. One person has reached out at least a dozen times to our "Customer Care Team" for the same issue and getting no response. I don't understand how that happens. There have been several instances similar.
  2. Another one because they are looking for an invoice from an event two weeks ago, but nobody has generated the invoice. How can this company make any money if we don't send invoices? Why is it not an automated process?
Mostly this is due to staff reductions, brought on by bad management decisions. But do they not see what they are doing? We are not making money because there is no staff to send an invoice. We are not getting repeat business because we have such poor customer service.

I shouldn't complain. I'm doing the best I can do and try to stay in my lane. I think my colleagues see that I'm putting forth my best effort and I think my customers also see that. Sometimes I wonder if my boss sees that, or just sees the late performance appraisals, missed training deadlines, and other bureaucratic stuff i'm neglecting.

Made the call to Silverrock to update the PS tee times. Hate to have them at 11 on Superbowl sunday. Hopefully we will finish in 4 hours in time to see the start of the game - scheduled for 330pm.

Need to call Northside Electric and get them out to replace the Chargepoint.

First Round of 2026

Played round 1 of 2026 today at CG. Shot 84, net 71.

  • 1 birdie
  • 7 pars
  • 3 doubles (no triples).
  • 37 putts
Driver was off today, only 5 FIR, but did hit 10 GIR. Lost a ball on 3 in a freak accident. The drive went low, hit the green tee marker and disappeared. Nobody say where it richochet and was never found. Hit a great drive on 17, put my next shot from 196 on to the green pin high.

1 beer at the turn, 1 shot at 18, and 1/4 of a pitcher post round.

Stayed home to watch the Seahawks beat the Niners to win the division while the girls went to the hockey game and saw them win 5-4.

Need to get the remaining Christmas lights down tomorrow morning. But first thing in the morning i'll need to head to Garrett's and show him how to unclog a bathroom sink drain. Will likely just go after the trap undersink and clean it out. Another hockey game tomorrow afternoon.

Lastly, tomorrow will need to get online and review the CW backlog for the refinement meeting.

Seriously thinking about retirement in 2027. Need to understand how bonus payouts are handled. If i need to stay for the payout, that would put be on for about April 1. April Fools Day.

Happy 2026 - Is this a Resolution?

I didn't remember this blogger site existed.

Not sure why I feel the need to start writing again. But I do.

Maybe as I get older (I'm 61 now), I feel the need to express myself in a different way. This is a relatively harmless platform, free, mostly anonymous, and requires little effort to maintain.

I remember blogging back in the early 2000's on the old mojomark.com site. One that I built, programmed and maintained. I went back a few weeks ago into the internet archive way-back machine and browsed a few pages. It did bring back some very nice memories when the kids were small.

I don't have time for doing all that development now. Actually I probably do, but I don't want to. There is too much free stuff out there like this blogger platform that doesn't require any effort and does far more that would want to build.

Anyway. I don't know what is will become. But it's nice to know it's here.

Just call me "Swims with Wolves"

The family and I went to the Great Wolf Lodge in Washington this weekend. We had a great time.

A couple of observations.

Pricewise, I thought it to be a good value all around - even the food was reasonably priced.

It's a great family environment. The lack of teenage shenanigans was nice and everybody was polite and friendly.

Some people shouldn't wear swimsuits under any circumstances. I'm a big guy, but I often found myself feeling pretty normal in comparison.

There were a couple older mom's rockin' their bikinis - nice work.

Speaking of which, a special note to the brunette in the white bikini under the umbrella fountain - thank you.

Make Sure it Works Before Showing Off

I had a coworker today schedule an hour of my day to show me how some new functionality would work.

Every scenario failed.

There was no debugging information available on the page.

How does a "professional" allow that to happen. When I show off a piece of software, I will at least make sure it works.

Guilty

I got mad at the oldest child the other day for opening a package I specifically told him not to open. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal - because it really wasn't. But what set me off was that a key component was now missing. By opening it, he had lost a critical piece.

Except, I found the piece at work this morning. Because I had opened it at work.

I think I owe my son an apology.

Rejoice - Gas is Expensive!

Me and the missus were celebrating that our local gas station was down to $3.99 per gallon.

And she's defeated my argument that a new, more fuel efficient car would be a good purchase to replace the Tahoe. Bye bye MazdaSpeed and my dastardly plan for a very "fun-to-drive" car.
